Marina Giovannini

Marina Giovannini (Trento, 1959) got a Classical School-leaving Certificate, than
she entered in the Phisical Education Higher School of the University of Bologna
(Verona seat), where she graduated with full marks and praise, thanks to a thesis
about choral traditions in Val dei Mocheni, which nevertheless investigated possible
applications of that repertoire on the didactic activity. Thanks to that thesis she
has been praised with a scholarship, “Bauer” prize, by the publishing house Publilux
of Trento. She is also a graduand in Modern Letters in the University of Trento with
a thesis about the juvenile works of Bruno Maderna.
At the same time she has been making musical stusying and got the degree in piano
at the Conservatory of Trento, the one of Choral Music and Chorus Conduction at the
Conservatory of Verona, and finally the one of Composition at the Conservatory of
Trento. She attended also specialization courses, mostly about composition, studying
with Salvatore Sciarrino and other prestigious musicians.
Among her most important activities should be remembered:
-The collaboration with the Rai, regional seat of Trento, for four years, from ‘86
to ‘90, caring about music radio programmes, as planner-director, like “Ballando
ballando” (Dancing dancing), “Musica qui classica” (Here classical music), “Musica
allo specchio” (Music in the mirror);
-She has been among the components of the chambre vocal group “Il virtuoso ritrovo”
(The virtuous meeting), with which she has made concerts in various italian cities,
and abroad, in Usa and in Canada;
-She is active as a composer. Some of her pieces have been performed in Italy ( “Musica
‘900” festival of contemporary music in Trento, “Festival delle Nazioni” of Città
di Castello, “Rassegna di musica moderna e contemporanea” of Assisi, Festival of
Morlupo (Rome), “Women in Music” exhibition of Bolzano, University of Studies of
Trento, Meeting about Primo Levi organized by the Administration of Trento etc.),
and abroad (“Ferienkurse” of Darmstadt, Italian Cultural Institute of Atene and Salonnico)
and broadcasted by the Rai seat of Trento for which she has recently composed and
recorded the soundtrack of the radio dramatization “Giovanni Segantini”;
-She worked for the cultural page of the daily newspaper “L’Adige”, and also for
various cultural reviews (UCT, Escamotage etc.);
-As translator from english she has been workingin the Second Meeting of Music Analisys;
-She did an important transcription work of the etnichal vocal repertoire of the
Valle dei Mocheni, for the “Museo di Usi e costumi” (Customs and manners museum)
of San Michele all’ Adige;
-She is one of the components of the Maderna Group (University of Trento and Bologna,
organized by R. Dalmonte and M. Baroni), for whom she made the critical edition of
the Quartetto Giovanile (Juvenil Quartet) of Bruno Maderna, recently performed
and recorded by the Foné Quartet;
-She is holder of the chair of score reading in the Conservatoty of Bolzano.
